Understanding Your Activity
Pebble Health will track your steps as long as it’s been activated from the Pebble app. Health also calculates distance and an estimate of calories burned.  See below for more information on graphs on your watch, and in the Pebble App.

On your Pebble
View activity on your watch, tap the Up button to open Pebble Health.
  • The shaded portion of the graph and the number below show your current step count.
  • The line on the graph shows how many steps you typically have at that point in that day of the week.
  • ‘Typical [Day]’ shows your average performance for a particular day, based on the data you’ve collected so far.
  • Click the Select button to see your current calories burned and distance, as well as step data for the past 7 days.

In the Pebble app
View activity in your Pebble app by tapping the heart icon, and finding the activity screen
  • Steps shows your step count for the day
  • Typical [day] shows your typical number of steps at that time of day
  • The green part of the graph shows your progress for the day
  • Darker green sections show long walks and runs
  • The yellow part of the graph shows your typical progress for that day of the week
  • Distance, calories, active time: how far you’ve walked/run, how many calories you’ve burned, and how long you’ve been active.

Changing Your Distance Display Units

The default unit for information about distance is miles. However, the ability to convert your data to kilometers (KM) was added with the release of Firmware 3.9.

To switch from miles to kilometers:

  • launch the Pebble app
  • go to Settings
  • find the "Extended Settings" and tap "Unit Preference"
  • select Kilometers

You can choose to revert back to miles at any time by following the same steps, but selecting Miles at the end.

If the "Extended Settings" option does not appear in the Settings of your Pebble app, please make sure that it and your watch are up to date.

Accuracy
Pebble’s step tracking is extensively tested and we constantly refine it for optimum performance.

What affects accuracy? Step tracking uses an algorithm designed for wrist-based monitoring, however some factors can affect accuracy:
  • Movement. Since the watch is on your wrist, arm movement can affect step counting: if your arms are still and your legs are moving (or the other way around) you may notice different results than expected.  Over the course of a day, the overall effect on steps should be negligible.
  • Wrist location. Step tracking is based on the watch being worn on your non-dominant wrist.  While it will still be very accurate on your dominant hand, we recommend right-handed people wear the wrist on their left hand (and vice versa).
  • Your Info. Step, distance, and calorie data are all based on your height, age, sex, and weight.  Make these are correct by opening the Health tab in your Pebble app, scrolling down to ‘Settings’ and making sure your information is accurate.

Pebble devices with the activity tracking capability are not medical devices, and the data provided by them is not intended to be utilized for medical purposes and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Pebble recommends you consult your doctor before engaging in any exercise routine. Pebble step tracking is intended to be a tool to provide you with information to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. These Pebble devices rely on sensors that track your movement and other metrics, and are not guaranteed to be completely accurate.

Frequently Asked Questions

I just woke up--why does Health say I’ve burned calories?

  • Your body is always burning calories--it just burns them faster during a workout--so Health accounts for resting calorie burn to give you the best possible data.

What is typical? Why does it change?

  • ‘Typical’ is based on the data you’ve accumulated in Health, and shows you how your present performance compares to the past.  Health shows you your typical step count for a given day (i.e. ‘Typical Wednesday’), and your typical steps during the day (shown with a line on your watch graph, and in yellow on your Pebble app).

Why can’t I see a recently announced Health feature?

  • Please make sure your Pebble app is up to date by going to the App/Play store and checking for updates.  Then, in your Pebble app, tap the menu button in the upper right, then tap ‘Support.’  Find and tap the ‘Check for Updates’ button. If you’re still having trouble please contact Support from your app (instructions in Troubleshooting, above).

Why is the step graph full before the day is over?

  • Your graph may be fully shaded in before the day is over. Not to worry: your steps keep being counted (see the number below the graph), and the Typical line will adjust to reflect how far ahead of your normal pace you are.

Why didn’t my long walk/run get counted?

  • Health tracks long walks and runs of 10 minutes or more automatically.

Does it work/sync with other fitness devices?

  • Pebble’s fitness tracking can be synced to Google Fit or Apple HealthKit, but does not sync with other fitness devices.

What happens to my data?

Troubleshooting

If you continue to experience difficulty, please contact Pebble Support, mentioning you’ve tried the steps on Pebble’s help page.
