Understanding Your Sleep
When you wear your watch to sleep, Pebble Health tracks how much rest you’re getting. To better understand the sleep graphs on your watch and Pebble app, see the guides below.

On your Pebble
To view sleep data on your watch, press the Up button to open Pebble Health,  then use the Up button to navigate to the sleep card. In the daily view, you can see:
  • Your most recent sleep session.  The shaded portion of your sleep graph and the number below show how long your most recent snooze was.
  • Your typical sleep session for that day of the week. The two lines on your sleep graph and the number below ‘Typical [Day]’ show your typical sleep and wake times.
In these graphs, typical refers to your average amount of sleep for a particular night, based on the data you’ve collected so far. This will likely change over time as you continue using Pebble Health.

From your daily sleep graph, you can also press the Select button to see:
  • Sleep tracking for the past week, plus your 30-day average.
  • The amount of deep sleep you got during your last sleep session.
  • Exactly when you fell asleep and woke up last night

In the Pebble app
The bottom graph of your Pebble app’s Health section has more details about your sleep.  You’ll be able to see:
  • Your total hours slept and deep sleep. Deep sleep is shown in dark blue, while lighter blue indicates light sleep.
  • Your typical sleep for that day of the week. Yellow bars indicate the typical amount of sleep you get, while your typical deep and total sleep stats are listed under the graph.
In these graphs, typical refers to your average amount of sleep for a given night, based on the data you’ve collected so far. This will likely change over time as you continue using Pebble Health.

Accuracy
How sleep is tracked: Using methods developed with Stanford researchers, movement and other data from your watch are used to determine when--and how deeply--you’re sleeping.

What affects accuracy? You’ll need to wear your watch while sleep to track sleep, but a few other factors can affect accuracy:
  • Movement: detecting how much you’re moving is a big part of determining you’re asleep, so if you’re unusually active in the middle of the night, sleep data may be thrown off
  • Battery life: Make sure to stay charged up! Pebble batteries last for days, but if you run out of power in the middle of the night, you won’t get complete sleep data

Sleep tracking on Pebble smartwatches is intended to provide you with information to encourage a healthy lifestyle.  Pebble devices rely on sensors that track your movement and other metrics, and the data and information provided is intended to be a close estimation of the metrics tracked, but may not be completely accurate.

The sleep data is not intended to be used for medical purposes, nor is it intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition.

Alarms & Smart Alarms

Pebble alarms are a subtle way to be reminded of an important event or that it's time to wake up without disturbing those around you.

  • You can store up to 10 alarms on your Pebble.
  • We offer basic and smart alarms, as detailed below.
  • You can easily convert basic alarms into smart alarms and vice versa.
  • Both types alert you with strong, repetitive vibration until dismissed or snoozed.

Basic Alarms

  • A reliable, tactile alarm that will go off exactly as you set it.
  • Can schedule which days it's enabled.
  • If there isn't a symbol containing a Z beside the listed alarm, it is a basic alarm. See picture above for comparison.
  • Watches from the Pebble Time collection have multiple vibration patterns available to personalize your alarm and distinguish it from other incoming notifications.
    • To change your alarm vibration, go into the menu on your Pebble and select Settings > Vibrations > Alarms. Press the select button to scroll through your options and feel a sample of each.

Smart Alarms

  • Pebble Health must be enabled to use the smart alarms feature.
  • Will use the incoming sleep data to determine the best time to wake you, between the time you set your alarm for and a half hour before.
  • Smart alarms are distinguished from basic ones in the menu by "Z" icons on the alarm listing. See image at the top of the page for comparison.
  • Can schedule which days it's enabled.

To add a new time
  • Select the plus symbol at the top of the alarm menu.
  • Choose between "Basic Alarm" or "Smart Alarm."
  • Use the up and down buttons to adjust the highlighted time (hour, minute, am/pm) and the select button to move to the next one.
Note: a smart alarm may go off up to a half hour earlier than the set time, if it is a better time to wake up during your sleep cycle.
  • Select whether you want the alarm to go off once or be recurring (weekdays, weekends, every day, or custom days).
  • Your alarm time will appear in chronological order in the alarm menu once set.

To edit an alarm
  • To edit an existing alarm, select that entry from the alarm menu.
  • You will be given the options to disable, delete, change the time, change the days, or convert between a basic and smart alarm.
  • Disabling, deleting, and converting alarms are done by hitting select. To change the day or time of your alarm, hit select and then adjust the current settings using the Up, Down and Select buttons.
  • You can also edit the Snooze option by selecting it and using the up and down buttons to decide your delay period (in minutes).
  • Hit select to confirm when you're done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn’t my watch track sleep?
  • First, let’s confirm Pebble Health is set up by tapping the Up button on your watch.  If you see step and sleep tracking graphs, Health is set up.  You’ll also need to wear your watch to sleep to enable tracking.  If sleep still isn’t being tracked, please contact us from your app.
Why isn’t my sleep tracked any more?
  • If your sleep tracking has stopped, please reset your watch by simultaneously pressing and holding the Back and Select buttons until the ‘pebble’ logo appears.  If you continue having trouble, please contact us from your app.
What happens to my sleep data?
  • Pebble collects your Health data to send insight emails and coaching tips, so we can help you lead a happier, healthier life.  For specific details on data collection, please see https://www.pebble.com/legal/privacy
Why doesn't the week data on my watch match my phone?
  • We don't yet have support for tracking sleep across multiple watches. Your phone does its best to aggregate the data, but sometimes the stats on your watch won't match the mobile app. Make sure you just use one watch for sleep and make sure it's connected to your phone every day.

Troubleshooting
Sleep tracking happens automatically if you wear your watch to bed with Pebble Health set up.  If you’re not sure if Health is set up, see ‘Setting Up Health’ above.

If your sleep tracking has stopped working, resetting your watch should correct the problem:
  1. Press and hold the back and select buttons
  2. Release the buttons when the ‘pebble’ logo appears

If you’re having trouble with sleep tracking accuracy, or the above steps did not work, please contact us from your Pebble app:
  1. Open the Pebble App
  2. Tap the menu in the upper right corner
  3. Tap ‘Support’, then tap ‘Contact Support’
  4. Tap ‘Pebble Health’
  5. Describe the problem, then tap ‘OK’
